Many of us seem to struggle with sticking to a weight loss plan. At the beginning, everything seems so easy to stick to, with both ambition and commitment running high. After some time, even if you have been successful, it can be more and more difficult to stay motivated. It does not happen to everyone, though. People do succeed in losing weight and keep it off for years. How is it accomplished?
Before you begin your weight loss journey, you need to set out some clear goals. Why do you want to lose weight, what do you hope to accomplish? Would you be happier if you were able to wear smaller clothes? Is there a particular weight goal that you have in mind? Is it as simple to you as assuring good health for your body?
Check and document your progress on a weekly basis. Start a weight loss diary, making note of your weight on a weekly basis. Use the journal to list the foods you eat everyday in a food log. Writing down the foods that you consume will help you become more aware of what you are eating, thus inspiring you to stick to healthy foods.
When you are hungry you make bad choices. Keep some healthy snacks around in case you get famished. Without a healthy and accessible alternative, you could fall back on fatty convenience foods. Plan your meals a week in advance, and always bring a bag lunch to work. This will also save you money.
A weight loss plan that incorporates both diet and exercise is best. You have to take the time for physical activities that you actually want to do. If you are having trouble including exercise in your normal schedule, try to focus on having fun, rather than doing a workout. Find an activity that you enjoy and make time to do that. Is spending time with your buddies important? Then you could play a game of basketball with them, or some other sport you like. Do you enjoy just forgetting about your worries and enjoying yourself? Dance classes may be the way to go. Are you happiest when you are basking in the glories of nature? Get out there and enjoy a refreshing hike on the trails.
Don’t leave tempting but unhealthy treats in your house. You can’t give into temptation if rich, fatty foods aren’t available. Stock your kitchen full of healthy foods you love. This will make it difficult to have the foods that are bad for you within easy access, which means you will not eat as much of them.
Get help from your friends. They are happy to help you! Why else would they have volunteered? Make sure that you have a support system of people who will cheer you on when things get tough. A support system can help you stay motivated to continue. If you feel down or unmotivated, reach out to your friends for support.
